selfishness and greed
Then I read your story - And hope filled my heart
For those of us who think we’re busy - Your
schedule gave a start!!
The lives that you have changed - And the abuses
that you fought
Will hopefully give the rest of us - Plenty of
food for thought
You saw the challenge and answered - From a very
early age
Like helping the poor in Oakland - With a landlord
on the wrong page!!
Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights - You shepherded
for 11 years
And the thousands that you helped - I know give
a silent cheer
One of your many talents - The one that you profess
Is bringing out the good in people - To help their
brothers with less!!
You didn’t neglect the family - A juggler
you became
At noon you’d meet the President - And still
make your daughters game
You’ve served as an example - Lecturing Generals
from foreign lands
On the issue of human rights - They know exactly
where you stand!!
Money was not your master - You lived for doing
good
You walked and talked your ideals - If only more
of us would
You teach at the University - Help at your daughters
school
Coach girls basketball - And live by the golden
rule!!
It was time to shift your focus - To your kids
that you adore
Howard and you turned 40 - And who could ask for
more
You never worried about the credit - You just
went and made things right
You’ve raised the level of consciousness
- To an unbelievable height!!
And with your moral odor - You’ll move along
your way
Not feeling righteous or put upon - On any single
day
And as you keep on working - With the nitty gritty
of human rights
Hopefully, others will follow your lead - Until
there is no fight!!
