Barnett Bicycle Institute/October 1995

Bud & Big Jim Dauphin

If you want to learn how to do it, then go to Barnetts

They know more about bikes, and an education you’ll get

The course isn’t easy, but what you’ll learn, is a lot

Calvin Jones is the teacher, and a lot of patience he’s got

You’ll learn the correct torque, and the latest in myths

You’ll find your favorite bike shop, might have given you the stiff

Your cables are short, and your bearings are shot

Your chain needs replacing, though a tune-up, you just got

Me and Big Jim came from Minnesota, for the basics we thought

By the end of the week, we knew we’d been taught

For Calvin’s a genius, and knows every move

As chief mechanic for the Olympics, you know he’s in the groove

Jennifer and Derek, are assistants trained well

When you start to feel helpless, the answer they’ll tell

And now here’s our class, who learned a lot, and had fun

At John Barnetts Institute, where they had us on the run

Chad was a racer, and loved his sport dear

We think his dad pushed repair work, and whispered in his ear

Go and learn how to fix them, since you know how to ride

Then you’ll have yourself covered, with a job on the side

Mark and Alison had sport shops, and heard through the vine

If you’re going to repair bikes, Barnetts is worth your time

Ken and Chris liked to ride, but repair costs are high

Heck, we’ll just learn ourselves, they said with a sigh

Of course without cops, no class could be complete

And we had our’s, they’d all worked the beat

Craig was from Abilene, a Lt. by day

He’s starting a bike patrol, at first without pay

And Terry from Charlston, where he’s patrolled for three years

He started the bike patrol, where he rides without fear

And Nathan from Harris County, is the smartest of all

If I learn how to fix em, I’ll ride when there’s no rainfall

Then there’s Statan Island Tom, who knows every part

We really enjoyed him, freaking at things from the start

And Lamont‘s the hungriest, he could eat up to his weight

But as hard as he rode, he burned off the extra freight

And last but not least, there’s me and Big Jim

Calvin showed us a lot of patience, that’s why we like him

So no matter what level, Barnett’s is the place

They’ll teach you to how to fix em, and you’ll be in the race!!!

To my class mates so recent, I bid you adieu

If your’re coming to Minneapolis, I’d like to see you

Our eight days together, I’ll never forget

And remember what Calvin says, "Have you read the book YET!!!"
