Childhood Friends
Remember the days - When each of us were young
All of us had hopes - To each one we clung
Wed met in High School - Young people at the time
We had visions of mountains - That wed each like to climb!!
Friendships were developed - Though none of us
knew
What was the attraction - We didnt have a clue
Some had no fathers - Anothers life was quite tough
Based on todays standards - Was it really that rough!!
Some were athletes - The best of the best
So why did they drink - It was just another test
Some loved the ladies - And got along oh so well
These were the guys - Who would never kiss and tell!!
Then there were others - Who had to find a niche
We wanted to belong - It was like a bad itch
These were the Outlaws - But we really werent bad
On the outside we were crazy - While inside quite sad!!
But we had a common bond - That never, never was
lost
Built upon timeless memories - That one can never exhaust
Pee Wees a sharp shooter - Shaws got three stores
Cookers a steel company supervisor - And I write rhymes
about lore!!
Paul writes for a newspaper - Probably the smartest
in the group
Cooker, who shouldve played in college - Still shoots at
the hoop
Though were scattered all over - The earth far and wide
We still have a fondness - For each other, we cant hide!!
The years we spent together - Really didnt
last long
How does four or five years - Form a bond thats that strong
It must be something about youth - And our will to hang on
To a kinder, slower time - That surely is gone!
