Dear Congress:

I know you feel strongly, about knowing what’s right

But you don’t have to prove it, by starting a fight

Federal employees were furloughed, with the blink of an eye

Don’t you care about people, I plead with a sigh

It’s not about policy, or who’s right or who’s wrong

We’re all in this together, let’s try to get along

It’s not about excuses, or what the public will buy

And it’s not about junkets, that can be hidden with a lie

Please try hard to remember, the days when you were pure

You hated the abuse in Washington, so elected office you secured

Your intentions were quite admirable, you raised a little hell

One day you awakened, looked around and all was well

I hate to disillusion, but you’re the problem, don’t you see

You’ve overstayed your welcome, an elected official, you shouldn’t be

You’re like an old time champion, who doesn’t know when to quit

You think your chair in Congress, is the only place where you can sit

So do yourself a favor, step down and do what’s right

Let the next young champion step forward, and continue on the fight

For there’s always new ideas, and the young can watch the old

And we’ll get honesty back in government, instead of a sign that says, "Just Sold"

I know there must be trade-off’s, you help me and I’ll help you

We’ll make this country better, with the laws that we push through

The citizens would really like this, if they only understood

Since I’m their representative, I’m voting as they would

Well I’m sorry to disillusion, but I just don’t understand

Federal employees all went wanting, while Congress directed the band

While there might be different party’s, Please keep this in sight

ASK, before your next decision, IS IT WRONG OR IS IT RIGHT!!!!

Just in case, you just don’t get it, it’s time for you to go

And please don’t become a lobbyist, you’ve made your share of dough

We don’t need career politicians, we need someone to care

We’re all in this together, isn’t it time we started to share!!
