Whatever Happened to The Benefit of the Doubt???

We’re now in 1995 - And things have changed a lot

You have to be careful where you walk - Or else you might get shot

When the kids were in school - They had better behave

Or when they got home - They were forced to be brave!!

The highways were slower - No epithets were heard

Now make a wrong turn - And you’ll surely get the bird

And how about stores - Where you bought all your goods

They were glad to serve you - And things worked as they should!!

You didn’t worry about returning - Everything the next day

Cause you didn’t overspend - And you had money to pay

And how about medicine - When you really were sick

You didn’t dash to the doctor - You had to be pushed with a stick!!

Now it’s a joke - I feel sick so I’ll go

Let me just call in sick - I have sick leave you know

And when I get through - With the Dr. I see

We’ll go over to Dayton’s - There’s a sale there for me!!

Daddy was working - And mother was home

Taking care of the children - And daddy didn’t roam

Was it the 60’s or 70’s - When it started to change

Mom started working - And dad roamed the range!!

He lived for himself - Instant pleasure was the game

Drugs, sex and rock and roll - He really wanted fame

Now he’s near 50 - His kids are real sad

Some are still with their mother - Some have really gone bad!!

His line is the standard - To talk makes him mad

He just keeps on mumbling - I did the best with what I had

Some say it’s true - And others think not

But one things for certain - We’re in one hell of a spot!!

We’ve gone from world power - Though not always right

We were always the first - To stand up and fight

Now what’s going to happen - When trouble breaks out

Will our kids want to help - Or just stand about!!

Now the American Experiment - A conservative Think Tank

Looks at our problems - And gives them a rank

There’s two things for certain - And the numbers will show

That we’ve got some big problems - That will continue to grow!!

One’s in education - Where spending is high

More money’s not the solution - Better behavior is the cry

Which leads to the second - Lets talk about Dad

He’s left the family in poverty - Which really is sad!!

So the cause of the problem - I say this with pain

There’s no family structure - With dad out of the game

So what’s the solution - With the role models lost

How do we show the new fathers - What their absence will cost!!

So I take off my hat - And speak from my heart

May the American Experiment - Get us back to the start

So put up or shut up - Is the name of the game

You must be a player - Or things stay the same!!
