It’s a shame, but it happens - People doing their work

End up losing their lives - Where trouble shouldn’t lurk

It’s a test of their character - Where heroes are born

Protecting the innocent and guilty - From someone filled with scorn!!

John Gibson & Jacob Chestnut - Who didn’t hesitate to act

Are being honored at the Nations Capitol - But sadly, it’s after the fact

Only twenty-six people - In the history of our land

Have been honored in the rotunda - In a tribute so grand!!

But let us not get crazy - And in a frenzy overreact

We’ll be locking up the lawmakers - Let’s keep public access intact

It does speak rather loudly - When people die from a gun

The rest of us become prisoners - When the reaction is overdone!!

Please let us not forget - In this turbulent world where we live

That we’re all children of God - Because of it, we must forgive

Oh, it doesn’t lesson the horror - Or the hurt of a loved one gone

But forgiveness opens a channel - One of Gods phenomenon!!

The tribute that Congress is paying - Is nice and should be done

But let’s be careful of hidden agendas - That’s how political wars are won

Please don’t think me a cynic - Just an observer, looking on

With no particular interest - Except for the heores that are gone!!

Security has become big business - And what exactly do we protect

People carrying knives and guns - Now, that’s a sad prospect

And are they really different - Than a politician taking a bribe

For they to are killing - How’s that for a diatribe!!

So lets honor our fallen heroes - But let us also honor mankind

Use the guns and knives for sport - And also put greed behind

We’ve lost the simple values - That made this country great

We’ve forgotten the Higher Power - And left our lives to fate!!

But our heroes won’t be forgotten - They paid the ultimate price

They saved another human’s life - And will be rewarded with paradise

Let’s use them as examples - Putting other people first

Isn’t that an exciting prospect - It’s causing our souls to thirst!!
