Dear Congressman Hyde!

What part of stop - Don’t you understand

We’re tired and embarrassed - Maybe it’s time to demand

The elections are over - At least for this year

But there’s always tomorrow - And that’s always near!!

But you sit so pompous - Day after day

Sitting in judgement - It’s a dismal display

You see, it’s pretty apparent - Just exactly your game

You’ve decided the outcome - And you want to defame!!

I don’t know if you’ve noticed - But the world’s a different place

Some are able to accept it - Others think it a disgrace

But the hard facts remain - Change keeps marching along

Those who accept it - Are the ones who remain strong!!

Did the President do wrong - "Of course", I must say

He’ll be remembered in history - A high price to pay

The argument I make - Is put it to rest

Set a new precedence - End this partisan contest!!

Think of the country - And the damage that will ensue

Achieve true greatness - And show remarkable virtue

Don’t set yourself up as judge - Nor let others pander to the crowd

Listen to the people - They’ve spoken very loud!!

Wrong committed for vengeance - To even a score

Won’t sell in the Midwest - It really has no allure

It’s a grasping of straws - And a showcase of power

Trying to topple a President - In a perceived Glass Tower!!

So step forward Mr. Hyde - Show the world you’ve got class

A man who showed courage - Who helped to end the impasse

History will be kinder - Especially to you

For those of us in the hinterlands - Are watching what you do!!

So if you’re following the polls - And have any sense of pride

Jump off of the bandwagon - Let your conscience be your guide

And history will remember - Whomever held the partisan bickering in check

Will it be you, Congressman Hyde - Are you brave enough, to stick out your neck!!
