I was excited at your invitation - And started planning ahead

When suddenly it dawned on me - And then came the dread

I’ve got mid-terms on Monday - And though it’s breaking my heart

I’ll stay here and study - And try to get smart!!

I’m really quite happy - That you invited me

If there was any way to be there - There’s where I’d be

Cave Spring’s Homecoming - Would indeed be some fun

And of all the people to go with - I rate you number one!!

So I’ll take this as a raincheck - And as the weekend passes through

Though I won’t be attending - I’ll be thinking of you

And after the mid-terms - Are over and done
