As I wish you Happy Birthday - With appreciation for the things you do

It’s times like these that memories - Flash back, as well they should

And mother, I must thank you - For providing a wonderful childhood!!

But, did you really feel it necessary - At my bus stop, when I was ten

To appear in your bathrobe - And reprimand me again

I’d forgotten to take my vitamins - As all my friends would attest

But, now I think back and smile - As a Mom, you were the best!!

And though I’m all grown up now - Your job is not quite through

For Romeo and Julius, my dogs - Still depend on you

You say that they’re adopted - And more I couldn’t agree

For you also make them happy - The way that you do me!!

You love to talk about politics - A lifelong Democrat you have been

In fact, being a Republican - To you, is some kind of sin

I guess that tells the story - As well as the pictures on your wall

And why your mail is so heavy - Each election fall!!

Now let’s get back to the singing - As any of our Directors will verify

Seldom is there a Christmas Party - Where the noise level isn’t high

With your Arubian accent lilting - A choirmaster you become

Always the life of the party - You help others have more fun!!

I know Dad is quite delighted - And proud of what you’ve done

But he knew you were multifaceted - A focused hard worker, but fun

You’ve commercial fished in Alaska - Thanks to my dear dad

And you worked at the United Nations - As a Beaver College grad!!

And after a fun round of golf - You enjoy a good glass of wine

Especially on your veranda in Aruba - With the ocean covered in sunshine

But your love of life and friendships - Is a great legacy you will leave

And I promise on this your birthday - It’s something I’ll strive to achieve!!
