Though you're no spring chicken - You've still
done a lot
Your life's been filled with service - Giving as much as you got
You've blazed quite a trail - For others to see
If everyone followed your example - Imagine what the world would
be!!
You were born in Hibbing - Way up in the North
But after two years of junior college - You ventured forth
Ending it all at Hamline - With a Business Degree
You peddled work shoes for Hanson - And the world you did see!!
But one things for certain - You got lucky that
day
You stopped in St. James - Now whatta say?
Your buddy from college - Got you a date
That was one sale you made - You were smart, not to wait!!
Then it was off to the Service - Where you found
your next love
You and the P38 - You fit like a glove
And 50 years later - You haven't stopped yet
With your P38 video - Thousand you've met!!
You were always outspoken - In a gentlemanly way
Like tea at the Whitehouse - But you couldn't stay
President Roosevelt would see you - The next day at two
But, with a new son at home - you bid them adieu!
You and Sylvia have been happy - With family galore
All three boys are successful - Who could ask for more
And your Grandkids are something - Your pride's easy to see
They must come from good stock - Will you argue with me?!!
So Big John I must tell you - You've been a great
friend
Not only to Kiwanis - With the knowledge you lend
But to each individual - Who's heart that you touch
Learns a lesson in giving - And that it's never too much!!
