PASSION
January 1995/Bud Dauphin
They say if you try to cling to it, youll
lose it, sure as you do
Does it mean that youre lacking in faith,
so its taken away from you
For surely the bible will tell us, have faith
and you can succeed
Youll get more than you ever wanted, more
even, than youll ever need
The formula it seems quite easy, but the questions
they still abound
Were always looking for the exception, we
look till its finally found
But is it really an exception, the presupposition,
is quite profound
Were assuming our faith is strong, when
really is it even around
Maybe that is the big secret, of survival both
then and now
Just keep the cruise control running, have faith
and dont worry how
Its when we get to thinking, how much longer
can this be good
That we really kill our rhythm, we question instead
of enjoying as we should
It seems so easy when I write it, in rhyme it
really flows
But then I get to thinking, how much more can
I really grow
Now Ive watched other people, who seem to
suffer as they go
Their life seems filled with hardship, but their
expressions dont seem to show
I guess its all in our perception, of what
were used to and then expect
It really lends some credence, what you want is
what youll get
But you really need to want it, and to want it,
means you enjoy
So wanting and enjoying it together, its
the Universe giving you a toy
Its when you struggle without passion, one
thing goes wrong then more
You probably dont like what youre
doing, so what are you doing it for?
There were things Ive said, I really liked,
because I had little choice
I did them for the money, not because of some
inner voice
And now when I think about it, theres nothing
I dont enjoy
I still cant believe I write poetry, to
me its little more than a toy
But this must be my mission, to find the words
that rhyme
Because the words that fit with them, give new
realizations that are mine!
