Randall, you are a marvel So Ive
written you, your own rhyme
You actually retired from football Feeling
it was time
During that period you worked But it really
melted your soul
Life took on new meaning And you realized
your role!!
You started your own business In Los Vegas
mighty heat
The hours were long and hard When People
work, people eat
Then the call came down The Vikings wanted
you
In retrospect, the Vikings Really scored
a coup!!
You came in as backup With you, that was
OK
Though formally a superstar Hey, that was
yesterday
Your first season wasnt spectacular
Though it ended with a bang
You took the Vikes to the playoffs And
became an integral part of the gang!!
Then comes the "98" season Backup
quarterback is the spot you fill
You were happy in that position The game
of football still gave you a thrill
What happens week two at St. Louis Destiny
gave you a shot
Brad gets hurt on a fluke And Cunningham
fills the spot!!
You stepped in and showed the world That
not only were you a star
But a man with class and presence You found
out who you are
You accepted your role as backup Never
jumping in front of the light
Just playing the game you love And keeping
the Lord in sight!!
The announcers speak with passion As they
recall the Cunningham of old
And remember some of your exploits Which
they witnessed or else were told
They now notice a calmness Saying Randall
is really at peace
Like playing six days after surgery And
still, your numbers increase!!
So I want to personally thank you For the
wonderful job you have done
Youre not only a great quarterback
But a team leader and phenomenon
And as a fan of the Vikings It really warms
my heart
To be associated with a role model Who
knows how to play the part!!
